We’re in the process of creating a default list of softball stats for our new Statistics module (which is almost done).

So the question is, what statistics should be included as a default set of stats for any softball team? Naturally, each team manager will be able to edit these stats categories to fit their specific team, so we’re just looking for the “default” set.

Thanks for the help!

First of all…considering I was just looking for jerseys and came across this site…I am thrilled! I have been thinking of creating my own Webpage for our softball team, however having this in place instead…is so much easier for me. Thank you so much.

Softball Stats: Team
Runs For / Against / Differential
- Team Runs Scored
- Team Runs Against
- Run Differential
  • Most leagues that I play in, use run’s for/against/differential when determining a tie in Points. Perhaps the option of turning these one?

Totals
- Hits
- At Bats
- Runs
- Batting Average

Softball Stats: Individual
By Player (Hitters)
- At Bats
- Hits
- RBI
- Runs
- Doubles
- Triples
- Home Runs
- Base on Balls
- Strike Outs
- Sacrifice Hits
- Batting Average
  • All of these should be available on a Per Game basis as well as a Cumulative total.
By Player (Pitchers)
- Innings
- Earned Runs
- Strike Outs
- ERA
  • All of these should be available on a Per Game basis as well as a Cumulative total.

I have created a spreadsheet that I complete all the required information on a per game basis with all of the above information. From there, it “feeds” into a Cumulative Totals page, which I manually sort by whatever field required, on a weekly basis. If you would like, I could forward this to you.

Thanks,
David.

I would also recomend adding fielding stats as well.
Total attempts
Assists
Putouts
Errors
Fielding %

For hitting stats, you could also include:
Total bases
On-base %
Slugging %
OPS % (on-base + slugging / total plate app)
Foul tips (haha)

For pitchers, you could include:
Hits allowed
Runs allowed (separate from earned runs allowed)
Walks
WHIP (walks + hits per IP)

Many of these are a little over-kill for softball, but most of them are easy formulas that if the manager is adding stats per game, they would be easy to calculate.

Here’s a link to the Wikipedia page for baseball statistics. Lots of good information.

Cool—great info, folks. BTW, I would assume that stats for Softball and Baseball would be pretty much the same, right? Are there any differences?

One difference: Softball is 7 innings, not nine, so the ERA calculation is different.

Also, in true web 2.0 spirit if the standard stats are taken, managers should have the freedom to design their own stats….(and share them?)

However it could be less than 7 innings if your league has a time limit. We have a 50 minute time limit so we rairly go longer that 6 innings in a game. Also if you have a run rule a game could be shortened. We have a 15 run after 5 rule in our league.

Games (or pitcher’s appearance) can be less than 7 innings but ERA is always normalized to 7 innings, if a pitcher gives up 10 earned runs in 5 innings the ERA is 14, if the game is stopped, or he’s pulled.

Yep, stats will be fully customizable. We’re just trying to figure out what the “default set” is when you create a softball team.

Great info, folks. Thanks!

Hey folks,

Huzzah! We’ve got Statistics pretty much ready to go. Before we release it to the general public, though, we need to do a limited beta test with specific teams. If you’re interested in participating in this limited testing, please email us at support@teamsnap.com and make sure to include your Team ID. (It’s the first number you see up in the URL when you login to your team.)

Any idea how to get these stats? I’m not sure what formulas to use. They are important in our league for tie breakers:
Softball Stats: Team
Runs For / Against / Differential
  • Team Runs Scored
  • Team Runs Against
  • Run Differential
  • Most leagues that I play in, use run’s for/against/differential when determining a tie in Points. Perhaps the option of turning these one?

You can create team stats as well as individual stats in the Statistics area. Just create these three stats as team stats and you should be good to go.

Thanks!

What variables would I use to get access to the Runs scored and Runs scored against? Is there a list of available variables anywhere?

I have noticed in the softball statistics setup, that there is not a spot for a fielders choice. The on base percentage itself cannot be calculated correctly because of this. If you ground into a fielders choice and get on base, this should count towards your on base percentage. As of now, all it does is show that you got out and were not on base, therefore making your on base percentage inaccurate. Is there a way this can be change?
